Icebreaker SHIRASE5002 (The 3rd Japanese Antarctic Research Vessel)
SHIRASE 5002 is the 3rd Japanese Antarctic Research Vessal that made 25 round trips between Japan and Antarctica. She moors at the Funabashi Port after the retirement.
Now, guided tours by former crews and experience-based events are hold on a regular basis. Tours provide a realistic experience of embarkation. The number of visitors has reached 110,000 since the opening of the exhibition.
On May 2, 2020, SHIRASE will mark the 10th anniversary of its mooring at Funabashi Port. Please come and see us for the 11th year SHIRASE.

【Experience-based events】Challenging SHIRASE

The 3rd Challenge SHIRASE was held on September 1, 2019. It was held with the theme of geography, co-sponsored with joint disaster prevention drills in nine prefectures and cities. It was a day where we could enjoy learning about the geography, the Antarctic research vessel, and disaster prevention as well as enjoy the boarding experience of the minesweeper Uraga.
